29-year-old Kurtis Dieter Sandy Schmidt had no story ready to explain to cops why he was driving drunk through Burnaby while wearing body armor and packing a loaded semiautomatic with a silencer. He pulled 42 months in jail. Schmidt told a similar story as a witness at the 2009 trial of Mark Arrieta, a Red Scorpions associate who was convicted of killing Philbert Truong. Schmidt told the court in that case that he had passed out, dead drunk, at home with his iPhone. He couldn't explain how the same phone was used 95 times while he was passed out – including calls for a taxi that brought the killer to the crime scene.

His inability to answer questions prompted the judge to ask Schmidt if he was “on medication” or “brain injured.” Schmidt said he wasn't.

19 geriatric Chinese Gangsters nailed

A group of 19 elderly gangsters who ruled their hometown in eastern China with an iron, arthritic fist have each been sentenced to up to 16 years in prison. Cops in Jiangxi province announced the 'Liu Family Elder Society' were convicted in the city of Yingtan for crimes including extortion, gang violence, attacking state organs, illegal detention, picking quarrels and provoking trouble. The boss, Liu, received the longest sentence at 16 years. Henchmen, whose average age is over 79, received between one and 11½ years each. The name Liu carries weight in Yingtan “when locals heard the name Liu, the color would run from their faces.”

Dealing with the decrepit detainees hasn’t been easy for Yingtan authorities. The Liu gangsters have used a litany of excuses to stonewall police, claiming to be sick, deaf, mute, short of breath, or simply forgetful.

Brandon Wade Kirby, 40, stole a pickup truck containing a sleeping man and a goat while it was parked in front of an adult video store in Missouri on New Years Day. Kirby drove across three states from Missouri to Oklahoma, before releasing the passenger and his goat. During the 209 km journey Kirby took copious meth and pistol-whipped and constantly threatened the victim. He eventually released both the man and the abducted goat. Cops repeatedly tried to stop the truck, but despite 4 flat tires, the driver kept going.

When the truck was eventually stopped, Kirby jumped out and ran for it, dropping his mask and gun. He didn't get far. Kirby was recently released from prison and was wanted in Osage County for a second degree burglary. He remains behind bars.

52-year-old Scot Young was fatally impaled on railings outside his luxury London home in 2014. He was a top money launderer for the Russian mob. Young, who died after falling from a fourth-floor window onto wrought iron spikes, had warned police he was being targeted by hitmen. Young was a go-to fixer for billionaire Boris Berezovsky, a friend-turned-critic of Russian president Vladimir Putin.

Fire guts luxury home involved in HA raid

Fire destroyed a luxury home at 203 Commissioners Rd. E. in London Ont, recently raided by police in an HA gambling ring take-down. The home is owned by Habiba Kajan, 43, who is charged with 10 offences, including unauthorized possession of a firearm, tampering with a serial number and instructing commission of an offence for a criminal organization. Kajan was in custody Thursday, according to cops.

Robert Barletta is facing 12 weapons and bookmaking charges, as well as commission of an offence for a criminal organization, and income tax evasion. He’s in custody.

Ontario's 'Teflon Biker' Robert Barletta nailed on gun charges

It won't be smooth sailing for 'Teflon Biker' Robert Barletta this time. He was arrested and removed from an airplane at Pearson airport in front of open mouthed travellers. Barletta was arrested Friday and charged with six criminal offences, five of them gun-related. More than a dozen club members and associates were arrested in the police probe and the case involves chapters in London, Toronto and Niagara. A public announcement is expected Thursday by the province’s joint forces Biker Enforcement Unit. (BEU) Barletta somehow dodged his charges for his role in a $103-million illegal sports betting ring, Platinum Sports Book.

After 3 years the charges were withdrawn for unknown reasons.

166 kg of cocaine headed for Quebec seized by US

Federal agents seized 166.6kg (370 pounds) of cocaine that was hidden in a truck preparing to enter Quebec at Vermont’s Derby Line border crossing. The cocaine was found by agents of U.S. Customs and Border Protection in the early morning hours of Dec. 7 with the help of a drug-sniffing dog in a hidden compartment of a commercial truck.

The driver of the Quebec-registered truck and trailer, Jason Nelson, was charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine.

A body could likely write a book about dementia based on Trumps' tweets alone. This one exemplifies much. He leads with his often repeated lie in that 'the call was perfect.' Only in Trump's mind could this possibly be so. The rest is a nonsensical mishmash of half ideas, semi thoughts, and spelling errors served up with non-existent grammar. He ends with a projection, i.e. everybody else must be 'Crazy!' Trump's deteriorating language skills are obvious. Semantic paraphasia is choosing incorrect words. For example, Trump's inability to find the word 'origins', substituting 'oranges' instead. Phonemic paraphasia, linked to more severe dementia, is the substitution of a word with a non-word that preserves some element of the intended word. Trump has exhibited this many times.

For example, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu becomes “Betanyahu,” big league becomes “bigly,” anonymous becomes “enenamas” or "anenomynous," renovation becomes “renoversh,” missiles become "mishiz," space capsule becomes “capsicle,” midterm elections become "midtowm" and "midturn" elections, and Christmas becomes “Chrissus.” At its extreme, which Trump is surely approaching, it is called tangential speech and is certain evidence of advancing dementia.

The attack was prompted by her selection as Time's 'Person of the Year'.

The last POTUS performance speaks for itself. It marks the second consecutive time he swore at a public speech, this time 'bastard.' It is this opinion Trump has progressed through 'stage 4' dementia. This is defined as a person who has clearly visible signs of mental impairment that point to early-stage dementia or Alzheimer's. There is a clearly reduced intellectual acuity. Trouble with routine tasks. Memory problems become more acute, and sufferers will slur their speech regularly. Rapid and profound mood swings are common. It should be noted that according to his obituary, Fred Trump suffered from dementia for 6 years before dying of Alzheimer's. Obvious decline or not, there is no system in place to evaluate elected officials’ mental fitness for office, including the leader of the free world.

Trump is on a near certain path of continuous decline and it surely doesn't take a medical degree to witness it.

Since posting a $174m bail bond in 2014, Dmytro Firtash has overseen his conglomerate Group DF in exile, living under house arrest in Vienna while he fights extradition to the US. The jewel of his business empire is a subsidiary called Ostchem, which commands a monopoly on Ukraine's market for nitrogen fertilizer. Natural gas is the key input in the production of nitrogen fertilizer. Reuters found that Firtash’s successful push into fertilizers wasn’t about his business moxy. Instead it was built on corrupt deals with Putin associates.

Firtash’s emergence as Ukraine’s fertilizer king illustrates the power of crony capitalism.

Russian bank Gazprombank, tied to the state-owned Russian gas giant Gazprom, extended Firtash a line of credit up to $11.15b, which he used to buy fertilizer factories. Gazprom supplied gas at a discount of more than 30%. Ostchem companies made an operating profit of $3.7b in two years. At a huge cost to ordinary Russians and the Ukraine fertilizer market, Firtash's company made $2.2b in 2012 and 2013.

Ukraine is China’s number one corn purveyor for animal feed, a crop requiring high amounts of nitrogen. Trump’s trade war with China has solidified Ukraine’s place in that massive market. ______________________________

They are two oligarchs with legal problems in the US. Firtash is indicted on federal bribery charges and Ihor Kolomoisky was embroiled in a banking scandal and was under FBI investigation. In a just released interview, Firtash says Giuliani’s associates offered help with his DoJ problems — if Firtash hired his two lawyers/associates. He says he has paid his new lawyers $1.2m to date. Firtash said the offer was made in late June when he met with Lev Parnas and Igor Fruman. Ihor Kolomoisky is a banking and media tycoon and is one of Ukraine’s richest men. He is close to Zelensky and is well known for financing troops battling Russian-supported separatists. Giuliani thought his legal troubles would make him an easy mark.

Kolomoisky said Parnas and Fruman came under pretext of dealing liquefied natural gas, but they wanted a meeting between Giuliani and Zelensky.

When Parnas and Fruman were arrested at the airport, they had one way tickets to Vienna.

Giuliani associates Victoria Toensing and Joe DiGenova represent Firtash. They met with AG William Barr in July to argue against Firtash charges. This at the height of Giuliani’s hunt for dirt on Biden. Despite being a conduit for millions, Giuliani claims he did not know Firtash, or if Parnas and Fruman knew him. “It’s none of my business.”

Dmytro Firtash is a Russian billionaire who partnered with the kremlin in the European gas trade. His company got exclusive rights to Russian gas and resold it in Ukraine and Western Europe. That role could only come with the approval of Vladimir Putin.

The documents taken on TV and waved around by Giuliani came from Dmytro Firtash's legal team in Vienna. These debunked documents were presented as 'evidence' for his claims of wrongdoing by Robert Mueller and Joe Biden.

Firtash officially hired Giuliani associates Victoria Toensing and Joe diGenova for his legal team, effectively making Giuliani's team his own. Giuliani denies knowing Dmytro Firtash, despite receiving $500k from him. His indicted associates absolutely, positively do. Toensing and DiGenova even personally presented Firtash's sad plight to AG Barr. Firtash’s acquaintance with top Russian mob boss Semion Mogilevich was exposed in 2010, when WikiLeaks posted a tranche of State Department cables.

Firtash is a well known high level associate of Russian organized crime. He is famous for supporting pro-Russia factions in Ukraine.

Judge cuts gangster Leonid “Lenny” Gershman a break - 16.5 years

Leonid “Lenny” Gershman — who made headlines due to his expensive tastes was sentenced to 16.5 years in prison, which was a decade shorter than what prosecutors had sought. Gershman, 36, was convicted on charges of racketeering, extortion, illegal gambling and loan sharking. Yaroslav Pastukhov was busted when four Canadians and one American were caught at Sydney airport with more than $20m worth of cocaine glued into the lining of their suitcases. Pastukhov pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to import cocaine.

Yaroslav Pastukhov, 28, a former Vice Canada editor, admitted he conspired to import large quantities of cocaine into Australia. Writing under the name Slava Pastuk, he used his high-profile position as music editor to lure drug mules. Five drug couriers were arrested at Sydney airport in 2015 after nearly 40 kilograms of cocaine was found in their suitcases. Each was sentenced to significant prison time. The Australian court heard the packages were for a Mexican drug cartel. Pastukhov is scheduled to be sentenced on Oct. 31. The prosecution was seeking a 12-year prison term.

Spanish police tow drug submarine loaded with 3 tons of cocaine

Spanish police managed to tow a sunken submarine believed to be carrying tons of cocaine into a northwestern port. The submarine sank as police tried to intercept it. Two have been arrested. Spanish authorities said it was the first time a submarine had been found to be used in drug trafficking in the country. Its thought the vessel came from Colombia.
