 | GTA mafia and bikers used to get their hands dirty. Today those groups are more likely to recruit younger, lesser-known criminals to do their dirty work. Cops say bikers use a “multi-layered approach to distance themselves from law enforcement,” including using street gangs for difficult jobs. Roughly 150 such groups exist in the GTA, with names like the Shower Posse, Afghan Fighting Generation and Dixon City Bloods. Things were different in the 70s through 90s, when the bikers were often the ones recruited. |
 | Biker Cecil Kirby was recruited by local mobsters to beat, bomb and kill before becoming an informant. Biker Salvatore (Sam) Calautti was a suspect in at least five unsolved gangland hits, including the slaying of Nicolo (Uncle Nick) Rizzuto Sr., father of boss Vito Rizzuto. “He was very good at what he did” say cops. Calautti was shot dead in his BMW X6 in July 2013. |  |
 Dixon Road Bloods | Underworld enforcer Normand Brisebois said in an interview that ambitious street gangsters often think they’re moving ahead when they’re hired to do enforcement work. They are anonymous and unknown, and that is their biggest asset. If they need to be eliminated, nobody will care. Even if a gang member gets caught and decides to co-operate with authorities, they’re likely to know very little about the crime or those responsible. |
