The unsolved murder of John 'Goldfinger' Palmer has nearly reached the 7 year mark. The Essex gang boss gained his 'Goldfinger' moniker after being acquitted of handling bullion from the £26m Brink's-Mat raid in 1983. Palmer died after being shot six times on June 24, 2015. A gunman shot the gangster three times from point-blank range and then three more times in the back as the 64-year-old lay on the ground. A mortally wounded Palmer walked a short distance towards his house before collapsing. | The week of his death he was busted in a wide ranging fraud. The underworld believed Palmer was offering information on other criminals. |
Once described as the richest mobster in the UK, Palmer left a long trail of corpses in his wake. Cops believed that virtually all of his £300m fortune came from swindles, violence, racketeering and money laundering.
