Toronto cop Cst Ronald Joseph, 47 has been arrested as part of a criminal group that used stolen encrypted police radios in southern Ontario’s violent tow truck wars. The cop was so entrenched he not only profited by sharing police equipment and information, he also owned a car rental service and two tow trucks. |
Tow truck employees from three different towing companies had access to three stolen Toronto police radios, at least one of which was stolen from police by a cop. Ronald Joseph has been with Toronto police for 11 years. He allegedly helped members of the consortium get a genuine police radio, which was then cloned. The cloned version was checked back in with police. The scheme unraveled last month when cops stopped a tow truck driver and found a genuine Toronto police radio. When officers examined it, they found it was a clone. A few weeks later, police searched several homes and found a second Toronto police radio, reported lost or stolen in 2018. |
Eleven were arrested, including seven tow truck drivers. | On June 9, three tow truck drivers met at a Costco parking lot. Police were waiting and found a third Toronto police radio and a loaded 9mm. Joseph was first arrested earlier this month and charged with breach of trust and theft. He was arrested again last week and charged with gangsterism. He faces charges of taking secret commissions, attempt fraud, breach of trust, possession of device to intercept private communications, trafficking property obtained by crime, counseling forgery and counseling breach of trust. | Joseph is suspended, with pay. |
