Zombie deer disease on the rise

Scientists are warning a zombie deer disease could spread to humans after hundreds of animals were infected with the illness in the US over the last year. Chronic wasting disease (CWD) has been found in 800 samples of deer, elk and moose across Wyoming. Experts warn the disease is a “slow-moving disaster”. CWD is very hard to eradicate. It persists for years and is resistant to disinfectants, formaldehyde, radiation and incineration.

CWD has also been found in elk and white-tailed deer in Alberta and Saskatchewan this year.
