Ecuador's Daniel Noboa versus organized crime

Ecuador's president-elect Daniel Noboa is the country's youngest. The son of one of Ecuador's richest men will be confronting gangs with ties to Mexican and Colombian cartels, seeking to restore the peace that prevailed a few years ago. In the four years to 2022, Ecuador's murder rate has quadrupled.
Ecuador went from being a stop to a global distribution hub for cocaine trafficking and that resulted in a bloodbath in the streets with narcos dangling headless corpses from city bridges and detonating car bombs outside police stations. Widespread corruption favours the traffickers.
Experts say Ecuador could close the year with a record of 40 homicides per 100,000, up from 33 per 100,000. This is more than Mexico or Colombia.
