While their comrades retreated or dug in, the Russian and allied troops around Bakhmut kept trying to advance. Losses are huge. Last week, the Russians claimed they’d captured several settlements around Bakhmut. Ukraine denied it. Russians are losing strength and they are willing to spend all to achieve a symbolic victory rather than an actual military one of value. |
