Mephedrone, 4-methyl methcathinone or 4-methyl ephedrone, is a synthetic stimulant drug of the amphetamine and cathinone classes. Slang names include drone, M-CAT, White Magic, and meow meow. The drug is a designer amphetamine that produces effects similar to MDMA and cocaine. Like other designer drugs it was created to avoid pre-existing bans on Schedule 1 drugs. |
Effects include poor concentration, teeth grinding, problems focusing visually, poor short-term memory, hallucinations, delusions, and erratic behaviour. Most prevailent in the UK, the US classified mephedrone as a Schedule I drug in July 2012. |
