Roberto González Montes, the leader of La Línea, “El32” or “El Mudo,” meaning the mute, was arrested. The massacre came during a war between Montes’ La Línea and the Sinaloa Cartel. Nine who died were part of a convoy of 17 ambushed in Sonora. The dead and injured were all members of La Mora, a settlement in Sonora, an offshoot of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. | Some of the children were burned alive. |
La Mora contains 35 homes with 150 people. Roberto González Montes was arrested with other suspected cartel figures Eulalio Domínguez Alanís and Santiago Casavantes Radovich. |
