1,000 kg of Cocaine found in Rotterdam banana shipment

Customs officers found 1,000 kg of cocaine at the port of Rotterdam on Feb 7th. The drugs were hidden in a container loaded with bananas from Ecuador via Costa Rica. Officials working at Rotterdam port seized over 30 tonnes of cocaine in 2019 – well above the 19 tonnes found in 2018 and a new record.
2019's total includes 15 ‘major hauls’ of 500 kg, with the largest single shipment of 3,000 kg recovered in August. The port of Rotterdam is an important hub in the cocaine trade in Western Europe.
