Ex-RCMP Burnett sentenced to 10 years for theft, cocaine trafficking

A judge has sentenced former high-ranking RCMP Craig Robert Burnett to a decade in prison for stealing and selling $300k worth of cocaine, saying the egregious breach of trust compromised the national police force and resulted in a "remarkable fall from grace." Burnett, former commander of an RCMP National Port Enforcement Team, stole the drugs from RCMP headquarters in Halifax in 2011 and sold it through others. The judge said the 51-year-old retired staff sergeant 's corruption led him to exploit "the very law he was sworn to uphold."
Burnett spent 24 years the RCMP before being suspended with pay in July 2016 and then retiring on a full pension.
